III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection flown on May 4, 2005. The digital images were reviewed on May 9,
2005. There were no compliance problems at the reclaimed mine during the overflight. There was no
snow on site but the area was wet with standing water.
Roads
The paved entrance road appeazed to be in good condition and passable. The same was true with the
bridge over the North Fork of the Gunnison River. The light use road to the office building appeared to
be very wet with several pools of standing water.
Hvdroloev
Both the Edwards Mine portal spring water treatment pond and the sediment pond had fair amounts of
standing water in them. The pond embankments and inslopes appeazed to be stable and well vegetated.
The river was running high but the mine site is protected from flooding by the surrounding berm.
Facilities
The condition of the office building had not changed appreciably since the last inspection. A
moderately sized pool of water had collected adjacent to the west side of the building.
Reclamation
The hill slope adjacent to the backfilled west portals continues to slowly come down. The road
reclamation and east backfilled portals, however, showed no signs of slope instability. The reclaimed
hillslopes had a good cover of vegetation.
c:/word/beaz3/insp0505
