The operator
was contacted about the inspection and a time was arranged to jointly inspect the site. The operator named on page one
was present throughout the inspection.
The permit ID sign was posted at the NE entrance to the site. The permit boundary is delineated mainly by fencelines. A
five-acre block in the NE corner of the property, containing the company offices, shop, processing facilities, etc., is not
included in the permit area; it receives and processes material from other sites, is not required to be included in this permit,
and the structures will remain after reclamation of the permit. A separate tract of the permit area lies south of Tomichi
Creek, and has not yet been disturbed by mining.
The site is being excavated down below groundwater level, producing a series of ponds. These ponds may eventually be
come one pond when the dividing dikes are removed. The final pit slopes will be graded to 3:1, topsoiled and vegetated.
The site was toured to inventory the extent of the pits, the pit slope gradients, the amount and condition of topsoil, items
to be removed during reclamation, and other reclamation tasks still to perform, according to the approved reclamation plan.
Tasks still to perform include: pond slope grading, structural removal, debris removal and disposal, equipment removal,
elimination of compaction, topsoil replacement, and revegetation. These tasks will be estimated and sent to the operator
for review. The operator is reminded that after notification, there is a 60-day period during which any required bond
increase is to be submitted. Though this office will also send a copy of the bond estimate packet to the operator's
corporate office in Rocky Ford, as a courtesy, it will be the responsibility of the operator's Gunnison office to ensure that
the bond increase is submitted timely.
There were no problems noted during this inspection.
