III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during
the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the
facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Chimney Rock Mine for the month of November, 2000. North
facing slopes and all flat areas were snow covered with only the south facing slopes clear.
RECORDS: Records were inspected and found to be conditionally satisfactory. See page 5 of this report
for further details.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: All ponds have been removed and final drainages have been established.
Erosion on the hillside in back of the large shop building is starting to become significant and will require
some maintenance. Erosion from the poorly maintained East Pit road is making its way into the hayfield.
Although there is no off site damage due to erosion, the rules require that all roads be maintained,
therefore, the bar ditches and roadside ditch need to be repaired and/or re-established, AS WAS
NOTED IN THE LAST TWO INSPECTIONS.
GENERAL MINE COMPLIANCE: The condition of the mine has been steadily been going downhill and
if this continues, enforcement actions will resume at every infraction.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS: The vegetation throughout the site is dry but stable.
