ROADS AND HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -continued
SAE 7
The silt fence needs repair work as much of it is covered in a pile of dirt. It appears that since last
month's inspection a grader struck the fence while doing maintenance work on a nearby ditch. There
have been no adverse impacts from the non-functioning fence. The hillside above the silt fence is
well-vegetated. The operator says the repair will be done in the next few days.
BACKFILL AND GRADING
Ash Disposal Pit
Scrubber sludge is being dumped in an area on the east side of the ash disposal pit. The sludge is a
pinkish gray, very fine grained, viscous slurry. According to the operator the sludge is composed
mainly of lime. The dumped sludge forms a mudflat in the pit with a surface that dries and hardens.
The hardened surface supports the solid waste disposed in the pit. Water on the mudflat surface is
not ponding but appears to be evaporating.
TOPSOIL
The following topsoil stockpiles are well-vegetated, are not gullied, and have markers: EP2, EP4, A92-
5, MP2, MP1, A92-3, and A92-4. Stockpile F96-1 is also well-vegetated, and not gullied, but a marker
was not found and needs to be installed.
SLIDES AND DAMAGE
Slide in scraper pit area of Ashmore Pit
The slide mass has been rough graded so that it appears more stable than it did during last month's
inspection. The slide no longer appears to be threatening the topsoil stockpile which lies
approximately 100 feet uphill. The operator says the slide area will probably not be reclaimed yet
because eventually Flintlock pit will pass through here. It is recommended that drains be installed at
the toe of the slide, and the toe of the area should be buttressed.
-4-
