III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This partial inspection of the Blue Flame Coal Mine was conducted by DMG staff from
the Durango Office, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970)
247-5469. The permit for the Blue Flame Coal Mine was revoked over 5 years ago.
Financial warranty was forfeited and utilized for final reclamation. No activities were
observed, no personnel encountered during the time of this inspection.
Mine entrance roads have remained to provide access to adjacent agricultural fields.
Russian knapweed was well established on the mine entrance road.
Backfilled and graded areas appeared stable, evidence of slope failure, slope movement
or excessive erosion was not observed. Reclamation vegetation was well established,
diverse and appeared at least equal in extent of cover to surrounding undesturbed
areas. Russian knapweed and Canada thistle were observed on portions of the
reclaimed haul road.
