Prior to the physical inspection of the site, a brief
discussion about the overall project and the pending technical revision for
the expansion of the East Cresson mine area was held, with Mr. Phil Barnes,
manger of environmental resources for the site.
Clay liner deployment and smooth grading of the Phase IVC leach pad
expansion area is continuing, no major problem noted. According to Mark
Tidquist. As resident engineer for the site, Poly Flex plans to start
deploying geomembrane liner as soon as possible. To facilitate and expedite
the clay liner deployment, Ames had stockpiled bentonite-amended clay along
the edge of the slopes to be lined.
Continued the inspection to the Phase V pregnant solution collection area
and recorded the following readings from the high and low volume solution
collection transducers.
High Volume solution collection transducer # 7 was recorded at 21.0 # 8 was
at 21.0 # 9 was at 21.4 and # 10 was at 21.8. Low volume transducer # 1 was
at 17.5 and 3 2 was at 7.8 inches of hydrostatic head.
Inspected the Phase II and I pad and pregnant solution collection areas and
recorded the following readings from the high and low volume solution
collection systems.
Phase I high volume solution collection transducer # 1 was recorded at 35.0
# 2 was at 37.0 and # 3 was at 37.5. Low volume transducer # 1 was at .22
and # 2 was at .34. Piezometer for the pond was at 37.3 feet
Phase II high volume solution collection transducer # 4 was at 37.9 # 5 was
at 32.8 and # 6 was at 39.7. Low volume transducer # 1 was at .13 and # 2
was at .30. Piezometer for the pond was at 39.7 feet.
All readings are in feet of hydrostatic head unless other wise noted.
Inspected the external pond, it was holding some water, no major problem
noted. While in the area, recorded the following readings from the low
volume solution collection transducers, # 1 was recorded at 12.8 and # 2
was at 9.2 inches of hydrostatic head.
Inspected the under drain area, the upper and lower ponds were holding a
small amount of water, below discharge. Both the south and 4 inches pipes
were discharging. A split sample from the North under drain was provided
and the sample was delivered to CDOH&E LAB the same day. No major problem
noted.
18.
