III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during <br />the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the <br />facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />The mine site was covered with about a foot of snow. All water areas were frozen over. <br />Carry over items from previous inspections included the following items: <br />• Maintenance work required on some check dams of the "String of Pearls" was identifed during the <br />Division inspection of 19 November 2004. See the discussion under Slides and Damage below. <br />Roads <br />Piles of snow pushed up from plowing of adjacent roads blocked access roads to the site. All roads <br />within the permit area appeazed, from distant observations points, to be in order. <br />Hydrologic Balance <br />The site was covered with approximately a foot of snow. No open water was visible, and sediment <br />ponds appeared to be functioning properly, from distant observations points about the mine perimeter. <br />Sample sites in streams about the site were frozen over with snow cover. No water quality <br />measurements were made. <br />Slides and DainaQe <br />Maintenance required to restore a number of check dams to design configuration was noted during the <br />Division inspection of 19 November 2004. This work consists largely of relocating pieces of riprap in <br />the spillway crest sections. See a summary of maintenance work identified in the 19 November 2004 <br />inspection report. The features were covered with snow at the time of this inspection.
