(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-~4-ns8
INSPECTION DATE: nc~n~im
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TAS
1. Apre-operation site inspection was made of the Funk Gravel Pit located 2.2 miles east of Hayden on State Highway
40. Present during the inspection was Tammy Jakino of the Routt County Road & Bridge Dept. The operator has
recently submitted an application fora 112 conversion to expand the size of operation from 8.4 permitted acres to
47.6 acres.
2. An entrance sign was posted and permit boundary markers were present as required by Rule 3.1.12. Ms. Jakino
indicated that an additional entrance sign had been posted in conformance with Rule 1.6.2(1)(b) indicating the intent
of Routt County to expand the size of operation. This sign was in for repair at the time of inspection.
3. There were no noticeable surface water features or permanent man-made structures on or within 200 feet of the
proposed 47.6 acre expansion. There was a dry swale east of the existing pit area. The expansion area is now used
as agricultural cropland.
4. There was an active disturbance of approximately 5-7 acres including a pit floor area and excavation into a north
facing hillside. The operator has done an exemplary job of minimizing the mining disturbance by mining at a 1:1
slope and by leaving an existing hillside along Highway 40 to serve as a visual berm. Available topsoil has been
salvaged for use in reclamation. Ms. Jakino indicated that the Funk pit will be mined in three phases, with the visual
berm hillside area mined last after the other two (2) phases have been mired and reclaimed.
5. Adequacy concerns for the conversion application were discussed.
6. There were no problems noted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Paul H.
