Species noted include smooth brome, Indian ricegrass, orchard grass, timothy, alf Ifa, yellow sweetclover,
western wheatgrass, wheat and perennial rye. The site still has a significant component of koc ia, but it is obvious that
the perennial species are taking the site over and the annual weeds are being driven out. Areas ith a large component
of yellow sweetclover have understories of grasses that are becoming established.
The natural gas compressor station has been installed in the area designated for that post-mining land use. The operator
has also planted pines on the site in an attempt to create a sight and sound barrier for the co pressor station. These
seedlings will take many years before they are big enough to be effective, but the addition of th trees is commendable.
No significant signs of erosion were noted.
There is a small pile of gravel 15-6 c.y.l on-site that is left for the landowner's use on this
be sold after this permit is terminated.
There is a small patch of Russian knapweed near the access road shortly after entering the pit.
inconsistent with adjacent non-mined lands. The operator has been performing weed control mea
indicated he will continue to conduct these measures, and concentrate on the Russian knapweed p
that Curtail be used on this patch for several applications. Knapweed control tests indicate the
area is planted with crested wheatgrass and smooth bromee, once significant knapweed mortalitl
(usually within 2 yearsl. It is recommended that the landowner perfom these measures until the kr
This inspection report will be copied to the County Weed Control Officer for his files.
Regraded pit slopes are at grades generally less steep than 3:1. The slopes were covered with th
of topsoil. Some areas have significantly greater topsoil depth.
The Division recommends this site for release. The operator should submit a written request for 1
the requirements of Rule 4.16, as soon as possible.
Responses to this inspection report should be sent to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 484 Turner Drive, Building F, Suite 101, Durango, Colorado 81
Steve Shuey can also be contacted at phone no. 970-247-5062.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Wavne Wriaht
OPERATOR Spanish Fork Ranches
STREET P. 0.
