(Page 2)
MINE ID q OR PROSpECTINC ID k M-199.4-085__
INSPECTION DATE _06/06/06_ ~ ^ ~ INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Berthoud Sunset Quarry conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Stan McMahon of Arkins Pack Stone Corporation was
present during the inspection. Weather conditions on site were clear and warm. Ground
conditions were dry.
The Berthoud Sunset Quarry is located approximately 2 K miles south of Carter Lake in
to rimer County. Colorado. She 110 permit was issued to Arkins Park Stone Corp. on September
1, 1994. The permitted affected area to 9.9 acres in size. No mining was taking place
during the inspection.
According to the operator, [he quarry is mined according to demand and hat had intermittent
use over the past year. Some fire mitigation has been conducted in the areas adjacent to the
property such as trimming trees, removing undergrowth and reseeding areas chat have been
damaged by fire. Since the Division's inspecticn of February 2, 2000, mining has resulted In
a more defined pit with a highwall approximately 30 Eeet high. Mining has progressed to the
wesc, roughly 100 feet from the edge of [he cliff. A number of internal roads and small dump
piles are within [he pit boundaries.
The Division currently holds a bond in [he amount of $4,635.'10. The Division believes that
this amount is not adequate to reclaim the site as per the approved reclamation plan. The
Oiviaion will reevaluate the amount of required financial warranty within 60~days from the
date of this inspection. The operator will be notified of any increase to the bond under
separate cover.
The Division traversed [he permit area to locate the permit boundary markers. Markers were
noted, but it was not clear iE they repreaerted the permit area or the property boundaries.
According to the mine plan map, mining is to stay 200 feet from the property line to the
west. Without knowing the location of the property line, It is impossible to determine the
western boundary limits. Therefore, the operator will need to mark the permit boundary
location in accordance with Rule 3.1.12 and submit documentation to the Division in the form
of phocographs by July 14, 2006. See page 3 for corrective action due dates.
I i B Contec[ Addreea
NAME Judy Sprague__ ~" BL
OPERATOR Adkins _Park Stone Corporation ~- FS
STREET 5975 North County Road 27 ~' HW
CITY/STATE/2IP _Lovciand, Colorado 80538 ~~' HMWMD ICH)
~' SE
~-' KQCD ICH)
Cc: Carl Kount: DMC
