Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
14 December 2006
Also, oil and gas activities on the Plateau dictate that further reclamation at the Colony
site needs to be coordinated with these new activities.
Total land area contemplated for alternative land use is 228 acres. As these areas are
currently in their post-mining land use configuration, ExxonMobil requests removal of
these areas from the Permit.
Summary
ExxonMobil continues development activities to bring oil shale resources into
production. These activities include onsite research activities, probable use of the mine
bench for further activities designed to understand fracturing of the oil shale resource,
investigation into possible new crushing, conversion and upgrading technologies, on-site
spent shale research, and other possible activities utilizing the Colony facilities and
infrastructure.
The site is environmentally stable. Reclamation has been accomplished on
approximately 401 acres of a total disturbed acreage of approximately 1, 131 acres.
Approximately 228 acres of roads, terminal/staging area, and water resources facilities
will be used for future industrial activity and should be removed from the permit. Future
industrial use of these areas was contemplated in the approved permit.
Enclosed is a report detailing the reclamation work that has been accomplished and
explaining further our request to remove acreage from the Permit area because of future
industrial use for that acreage.
We trust that this submittal appropriately responds to the request set forth in the
Inspection Report. We will contact you after the holidays to schedule a meeting to
initiate the technical revision, review the enclosed report, and discuss additional
reclamation as well as the current status of the spent shale research. In the interim,
should you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (281) 654-6183.
Respectfully submitted,
Exxon Mobil Corporation
Ronald M.
