III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Hamilton Mine for the month of August, 1997.
RECORDS: Records were inspected and found to be satisfactory. See page 5 of this report for
further details.
ROADS: The roads are in satisfactory condition and do not require any maintenance.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: All ditches and culverts are clear and capable of functioning as
designed. Pond B was dry but pond A had a trace of water in but it was not discharging.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS: The site's reclamation vegetation consisists of needle and thread,
indian ricegrass, intermediate wheatgrass, some side oats gramma, and a good stand of fourwing
saltbrush, however, the weeds still make up most of the cover crop. Due to the polyicrylamide's
that were sown into the ground, the moisture has been retained and the vegetation has
subsequently prospered. The Division has approved a supplemental seeding mixture of Blue
Gramma, Needle and Thread, and Indian Ricegrass to be either broadcast or drilled seeded this
fall or winter. Also approved is limited grazing during the fall and early spring in order to
eliminate the extensive amount of cheat grass at the site.
