4
MINE ID /` OR PROSPECTING ID $
INSPECTION DATE 04/19/94
(Page 2) •
M-87-116
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
Thia inspection was performed by the Division as a follow up to an inspection on 11/04/93.
Operator was contacted about the inspection but was unable to be there. Some Bite work has
been done by the operator which will allow for the Division to be better able to calculate
the needed bond amount. When figures are prepared, they will be sent to the operator for
review.
Items noted during inspection include:
Signs and markers were present.
There are fewer stockpiles of product on the permit area now.
Topsoil is present, but thin and rocky. Piles are separated from work areas, are not seeded
but are low in profile and on level ground, so that they appear stable. If pit is to be
expanded significantly, topsoil piles will have to be moved. operator should take care to
minimize the handling of topsoil. If piles are high or sloped steeply, seeding for their
protection may be recommended.
Communication received by the Division from the operator in January 1994 stated that the
sedimentation pond downstream (SW) of the pit was adequate to contain surface runoff. It is
located outside of the permit area, but on the permittee's land. This structure was
inspected during this inspection. It is an earthen dam, 200 feet long, 30 feet wide at the
bottom, 2:1 elopes, grassy surfaces, top was 6 feet above the water line, 3 foot freeboard
at spillway. It appears that moat of the site's runoff drains into the old pit (south and
below the active pit) if runoff occurs. No traces of sedimentation were observed outside the
permit area, or even leading toward the pond. Area draining into this pond is large, though
permit area ie small by comparison. If lower pit were not there to provide primary
catchment, it is felt that another structure would have to be installed. Control by these
two features appears adequate to this inspector.
Site was clean and orderly. There was no equipment on site. There were no problems noted at
this inspection.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Bill Tezak
OPERATOR Colorado Quarries
STREET 270 S 15th St
CITY/STATE/2IPCanon Citv CO 81212
cc: Jim Stevens/DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
