<br />environmental consequences are adverse or not. The XRF method as a screening technique is <br />inappropriate, in my opinion, for examining sites like this because it does not identify the <br />mineralogical sources of the metals, and without that knowledge one cannot evaluate the <br />potential for environmental consequences. More study about the mineralogy of the tails and the <br />mobility of the metals should be conducted before making predictive assessments about the <br />nature of the tails or their potential environmental consequences.
