:'
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
On March 18, 1997, William J. Carter from the Division of Minerals and Geology performed a
partial inspection at the Hawk's Nest Mine. The Weather was clear and warm during the
inspection.
Roads:
The old State highway is in good condition. Some potholes are developing where the springs from
north of the road are seeping under the pavement and the asphalt is heaving due to freezing.
Avdrologic Balance:
• Both seeps at the east portal are discharging and running across and under the road.
• The sedimentation pond west of the substation contains about three to four inches of
water covering approximately half of the bottom.
Backfill and Grading
No settling or slumping was observed during this inspection.
Revegetation•
Approximately two thirds of the western portion of the site, and the areas north of old highway
133, indicate new growth for the season.
Others•
Some trash was removed from the site during the inspection. This waste is an accumulation of
cans that have been thrown out by the public.
