rrr_ +''~VINIENTS - COI~LL~NCL'
Below are comments on the inspecfion. The comments include discussion of observations made daring the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
!his was a complete inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection, although Bill Bear was present for the records check.
Reclamation
'['he cracks continue to fd1 in naturally at the backtilled west side portals. There was no odor of smoldering coal
in the immediate area. However, there was the odor of smoldering coal that seemed to come from the hole about
25 feet above the backfiIIed west side portal. The hole, maybe 3 feet across, seems to have increased in size
lately, although it is difficult to tell exactly. There were no problems with the backfilled and graded portal access
road and east side fan bench.
Roads
The paved haul road was in good condition and was passable, in spite of a two foot diameter rock that had rolled
across the road from the adjacent property and was sitting on the south shoulder of the road. The cable across
the road at the top of the hilt was down. The bridge was in good condition.
Siens and Markers
The mine ID sign was on its post at the top of the hill but the post was knocked down and needs to be put back
up. Surface disturbance markers were up azound the disnirbed azea.
Facilities
There were no new problems with the mine office. Both doors to the office building were open.
Hydrology
The water IeveL in the sediment pond was within one foot of the closed primary discharge tube gate. The pond
embankment appeared to be stable and the riprapped emergency spillway was functional. Pond inslopes were
well vegetated. T`ne Edwazds Mine portal spring water treatment pond was discharging the usual orange-co"cored
water at about 20 gpm. The orange colored water has been found to be in compliance in the past.
The east side irdwards Mine portal spring was flowing from the Mltside into the constructed ditch, although a
little spring water was flowing outside the ditch and pooled up next to the mine office. The temperahu'e of the
spring water was measured as 93 degrees Fahrenheit at a point about I S feet below the origination point.
The main collection ditch was well vegetated and had plenty of capacity. The river berm had sut~icient height
and was functional. There was a little precipitation water pooled around the down gradient alluvial well. The
well caps were on both alluvial well pipes.
Records
The records were in compliance, as shown on the attached records checklist.
c:/word/beaz3/insp0406
