III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below aze comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. Bill Bear represented
the operator during the field inspection. The operator is longwall mining in the WB-1 panel but will be
moving to the WB-2 panel in a week or two.
Roads
The paved main haul road was in good condition. The guard rail and roadside ditches were in place.
The haul road to the two gob piles also was in good condition. The berm was up along the outside of
the road and the road ditches were functional. The haul road up to gob pile no. 1 was in fair condition.
A few rills are beginning to form, however.
Hydrology
There was only a couple feet of standing water in Pond B. The primary was attached to the float. There
was a moderate amount of water in Pond C. The gated valve was closed. A float was attached to the
primary discharge tube for Pond C. Pond C had been recently cleaned out. The water level in Pond D
was just above the elevation of the primary discharge tube. The gated valve was closed. Pond F had
about one foot of standing water in it. The primary dischazge pump was in position, although the
piping has to be changed from a 3 inch diameter pipe to a four inch diameter pipe. Both Pond J and
Pond K at the train loadout were dry. All of the pond embankments were stable and pond spillways
were functional. The inlet ditches and culverts all were functional,
Coa] Waste (Gobi Piles
The top of gob pile no. 1 had positive drainage. The underdrain was exposed at the rear of the pile, as
designed. The top of gob pile no. 2 also had positive drainage. Gob pile terraces and outslopes were
stable. There was no signs of slope instability or erosional gullying.
Facilities
No problems were noted with any of the facilities on the D-seam portal bench or at the mine entrance
Slone Stability
No problems were noted at any of the cut and fill slopes, except for the small slump in the cut slope
above the main haul road, just before the D-seam portal bench. This small slump may need to be
repaired if it poses a problem in the future. The backfilled slump in the cut slope behind the wash plant
appears to be stable.
c:/word/bowie2/insp 1005
