III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
On January 19, 1994 a partial inspection was conducted at the Marr Strip Mine.
Present at the inspection was George Patterson and James Mossman. At the
time of the inspection the weather was clear and windy. Much of the snow on
ridges had been blown off, but flat areas had a foot or more of snow on the
ground packed around the sage.
The mine is in full backfilling mode of the 720 pit. By January 28, 1994
backfilling of the pit should be completed. At the time of the inspection seven
scrapers and 3 dozers were noted working tiuching up the now reclaimed 720
pit. Material was being removed from just west of pond A and was being placed
at the base of the former location of the highwall to blend in this slope. The
general appearance of the reclaimed topography looked good; the reclaimed
area blended well with the surrounding topography. The remaining topsoil piles
are now the only disturbed landmarks. The north, west and south perimeters of
the 720 pit were inspected.
After backfilling is completed next week further reclamation of the pit will be
done this summer. Frozen soil prevented complete reclamation at this time.
