ORIGINAL -PUBLIC FILE
(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-I98fL.ill
INSPECTION DATE: J-/~6/ns INSPECTOROS INITIALS: -81L_
OBSERVATIONS
The Division conducted a monitoring inspection of the site, as part of
sites to be inspected during the fiscal years 2004-2005.Presnt during the
inspection was Mr. Jon Atwater, of Elbert County Road and Bridge. The site
is located approximately .5 miles south east of the city of Fondis
Colorado. Site was active at the time of the inspection. In August 2000,
the site was converted to a 112 with assistance from the Division for a
total of 68.7 acres permitted and 52 acres affected. Approximately 10 acres
previously disturbed has been reclaimed. The reclaimed slopes appeared
stable, and moderately vegetated, some attempt had been made to plant pine
trees. Because the topsoil and overburden is very sandy, operator stated
that it might take repeated efforts to get the required cover.
Approximately 10 acres appeared to have been disturbed There were a few
dump trucks and front-end loaders located around the pit floor area.
Operator had placed a berm around the side of the pit adjacent Spring
Branch Creek to limit any drainage from reaching the dry creek from the
active working areas. The post-mining plan allows the operator to daylight
towards the stream, after the site is reclaimed. The berm around the pit
was found to be in good repair. No developed channels leading to the stream
from the affected areas was noted.
The small fuel tanks stored on site were properly encapsulated, with
compacted berms and were a good distances from the channel. If there was a
spill, all flows will be towards the pit. A small amount of used concrete
stockpile was noted along the North West side of the permit area. All
topsoil and overburden stockpiles properly protected.Permit sign and
property markers were properly posted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR.
