Holcim reports that the contractor is alert to
the possibility of finding asbestos, and reports each finding for necessary
mitigation. Asbestos abatement is being completed under demolition permits
issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Once the first phase of demolition is complete, with all concrete removed to
two feet below grade, Holcim will grade, bench, and terrace the facilities
area. Stockpiled plant growth media will be applied and the area will be
seeded and mulched. Given the progress of the demolition project at this
time, it does not appear that the reclamation will be complete in time for a
spring seeding, meaning that seeding will have to be deferred to late fall of
2004. Runoff from the reclaimed area will be managed by existing ditches that
convey storm water to a level settling area located to the east-southeast of
the site.
Holcim reports that total reclamation of the site in accordance with the
approved plan involves moving approximately 6.4 million cubic yards of dirt,
mostly in short pushes. This volume number would decrease if two of the
quarries are converted to water storage reservoirs, which is a possibility
under consideration. Holcim recognizes that the reclamation permit would have
to be amended if the reservoir project occurs.
cc: Carl Mount, DMG
(via email w/o photos)
I & E Contact Address
NAME Gordo
OPERATOR Holc
STREET P.O.
CITY/STATE/ZIP La P
