MMENTS - COMPLIANC
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gofiam of CDMG. This former underground
mine is reclaimed. Remaining buildings and structures are approved to remain as permanent
structures. Snow covered the north-facing slopes but south-faciny areas were free of snow cover.
Mr. luppa, the landowner, was present during a portion of the inspection.
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is kept at the Office of the Clerk and Recorder at the Las
Animas County courthouse in Trinidad. Records were found as detailed on page 2a of this report.
Please ensure that all correspondence and adequacy review responses for permit renewal #4
(RN-04) are on file at the courthouse.
Hvdrolooic Balance
Contour furrows on the refuse slope are either breached or nearly full of sediment as shown in the
photograph. Excessive sedimentation continues unarrested at this time due to extremely poor
hydrologic cover on the refuse slope. Ditches and culveKs around the site were found in good
condition. The 100-year diversion above the refuse pile was traversed along its entire length and
found in functional condition. The single sediment pond at the site was snow-covered and
appeared dry. The pond appears to hold a significant amount of sediment.
. .
- - i~
, _
_ _
,
y,.
w , ?"-•Z
.. ~ ;gin ._
} ..
~
_
,w _
_
.-^
e.
1~ ~ '~
- ~xz
Revegetation
Vegetation is basically dormant or has dryed down as the growing season is over. Litter cover is
limited, especially on steeper slope areas. Cattle were not observed on the site.
Overall, the site appeared in fair coru;ition.
Page 3
