The site
used to be a large 1 12 sand and gravel operation chat is under going final reclamation. A portion of the permit
area was acquired by the Colorado States Parks Department, as approved by the MLRD BOARD IN 2004. Prior
to reclaiming the pit floors, the operator had to construct aclay-lined dam along the Arkansas River side of the
pit, so the pit floor could be reclaimed. The operator wanted DMG to see the progress, since the completion of
the operation has bee extended twice. According to Mr. Pope who was present at the time of the inspection,
they plane to complete the construction of the clay dam by the end of December. With the exception of a
few areas that the cay is showing signs of seeping and would require additional sealing, the operation is
progressing well. TWO COMPACTORS, A SCRAPER AND A FRON END LOADER were being utilized at the time of
the inspection. The project is in the final 500 feet of the dam construction, this area was already clay lined, but
because of problems with the required Procter after it was tested, it was recommended to be removed and
reconstructed again. According to Mr. Pope, the compaction of the clay exceeds the required 95 Procter.
The entire area was driven walked and inspected; a small area of seeps was noted along the North East side of
the already sealed area. Mr. Pope staled Thai the area had received considerable amount of rain fall a week
ago and that most of the small standing water noted in the pit floor and along the edge of the dam were
associated with the rain fall.
Mr. Pope discussed possible remediation efforts that he wants to implement along the South East side where
seeps were continuing to be a problem, and plans to reconstruct the area by crying to create o dam effect to
divert the seep towards the river. Since a tributary of the River along the south side the landed damming also
feeds this area effect my resolve the seep problem.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: MR GERALD HERMANS
OPERATOR: TRANSIT MIX OF PUEBLO
STREET: P O ROX R67
CITY/STATE/ZIP: PuERi n cOi ORnnr~ Rirm9
CC:
r FS
r HW
r HMWMD (CHJ
r
r SE
r WQCD (CH)
r OTHER
Harry Posey (e-mail)
cc: r CE
All overburden/ topsoil
r BL
