gently sloping bench immediately south of the permanent road leading to the West Mine. It
blends well into the undisturbed, timbered slope to the south and conforms with the gently
undulating topography of the valley in general. Also reclaimed in 2003 were the south and
west-facing slopes of the Development Waste pile. These slopes are in compliance with the
approved plan and are exempt from approximate original contour requirements as allowed by
Rule 4.14.1(2)(e) for underground mining. Sediment control for the Development Waste Pile
is handled by diverting the lower south-facing slope runoff to sediment pond 7 and all other
storm runoff to sediment pond 4. Revegetation is complete on all areas except the upper-
most portion of the pile which is currently being regraded as the pile nears full capacity.
Once completed, all indications are that land utility, hydrologic reclamation, and landform will
be compatible with surrounding areas. These areas appear in compliance with the approved
plan for post-mining topography.
Following a brief discussion, the inspection was terminated. Other than the minor issues
noted at the West Mine, no problems were noted. Overall, the site appeared in good
condition for the early spring season.
