remains active at this time. The West Portal fan area is permitted for demolition debns prior
to highwall elimination and is also active and un-reclaimed at this time.
Sediment control for the regraded areas being evaluated is relatively simple Ditch D27 is
constructed downgradient from the regraded area of Warehouse #1 and diverts runoff in a
west to east direction to West Mine containment #2 Immediately upslope from the
Warehouse #1 area. ditch D28 diverts runoff, also to containment #2. from regraded areas of
the hoist house. trolley yard, and West Portal garage. A permanent ditch was constructed on
the regraded surface and diverts runoff from disturbed and upland areas to containment #1
located adjacent to the topsoil borrow area. This channel extends ditch D30 through areas
where the long culvert C23 was removed.
'' .: .~
,~
e ~L
Two issues were identified during the inspection. A short piece of silt fence controls runoff
from the reclaimed slope north of warehouse #1 and below ditch D27 where a walkway was
located. This section of silt fence requires repair due to wind and weather Also. culvert C25
exists immediately above the natural drainage adlacent to containment #2. However, the
culvert inlet is buried under the regraded surface and the culvert serves no practical purpose.
Once all demolition debris is removed and before vacating the site. the operator should
remove this culvert to finalize the permanent drainage.
