This inspection was conducted as part of the 4-year monitoring program in the Division of Minerals and
Geology. Present at the inspection were Kate Pickford, DMG and Greg Nelson, Weld County Public Works
Department. Weather at the time of the inspection was clear, calm, and approximately 25 degrees.
2. A sign was posted at the site entrance, and the boundaries at the site were marked. Mining of the affected
portion of the site has been mined to within 30 feet of the slurry wall, but future mining will occur closer to the
structure. Mining in the western portion of the pit will be continued to a deeper depth and dewatering of the
existing pond will occur during that process. Mining to occur in the immediate future at the site will include
dozing along the east side of the site and stockpiling and crushing of material in the northeast corner of the site.
Topsoil was stockpiled in the form of berms along the south and east of the site.
3. The site currently contains a large amount of weeds. Mr. Nelson indicated that the site is typically mowed in
the spring and in the fall to control weeds. The site was not mowed this past spring due to scheduling conflicts,
but is due to be mowed in the next week.
4. An above ground storage tank and generator was observed at the site adjacent to the western shore of the
existing pond. The operator indicated that the equipment belongs to the water district that owns the water in
the ponds. He was advised that the tank needs to have a protective berm and liner installed beneath it in
order to contain any spilled fuel.
5. The operator indicated that another access road will be installed in the southeast corner of the site to make
access from the site across the road easier, in order to haul material into the site for crushing. The operator was
advised that a technical revision describing the new access will need to be submitted to the Division for review
prior to installation of the roadway.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Greg Nelson
OPERATOR: Weld County Public Works
STREET: P.O.
