i • (Page 2) MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # INSPECTION DATE 9/21/99 M-97-094 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS AJW This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Brad Mueller of Siloam Stone Company. The mine is located adjacent to Siloam Road and approximately 35 mile south of Red Creek Road. The mine is located in gently rolling pinon /juniper rangeland just east of the Wet Mountains on a mesa type sandstone formation that is occasionally dissected by deep drainages. The primary commodity from this mine is dimension sandstone which is used in construction projects for buildings and retaining walls. The stone is initially surface picked and then hand quarried followed by low level blasting to loosen the more massive Dakota sandstone. A11 of the stone is then sized by hand and palletized before being shipped off site. The mine has advanced to the north and is beginning to encroach onto the adjacent Bedrock Mine. Since Siloam Stone is the operator of both sites this is not a problem as the allowable disturbance for the Pinon Mine is still with the permitted amount. There has been some additional rock picking in what was identified as pre-law on the mine plan map, however, this area is also now included in the adjacent Bedrock Mine. This is addressed in more detail in the Bedrock Mine inspection report. Little to no reclamation has occurred on the Pinon Mine, however, it does appear that some regrading could begin along the southern portion of the permit area where mining is apparently completed. The mine identification sign was properly posted at the entrance to the mine site and the boundaries were clearly marked. No problems were identified during the inspection.
