MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #
INSPECTION DATE
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a st.rety related monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron and Gary Curtiss
of DMG along with Nathan Barton of Pete Lien and Sons. Mr. Barton requested that the
inspectors conduct a preliminary assessment of whether or not this site would be eligible for
release of performance and financial warranty.
The site was located along the eastern flank of a hogback type formation and was permitted
as a silica sand operation. The entire area has been nicely regraded. The regrading plan
did leave a small Swale type depression near the north side of the disturbed area that will
contain water from the small watershed leading into it. The regraded slopes along the
western side ~~f the permit area are fairly long and are currently exhibiting some minor rill
erosion. The operator may want to consider installing some contour furrows or small terraces
across this slope at approximately 50-100 foot intervals. This would serve two functions.
First, it wou:Ld break up the slope length and serve to control the rilling activity. Second,
these furrows or terraces could be used to divert water away from the Swale/depression.
The area was :seeded in the fall of 1996 and to this point is exhibiting only minor vegetative
establishment. The operator could request a partial release for this site for the regrading
and topsoilicig tasks that have been completed so far. No credit will be given for
revegetation until the permanent reclamation species become more established. After this
growing season, it may be possible to obtain additional or full release depending on the
condition of the vegetation and the stability of the backfilled areas.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Nathan Barton
OPERATOR Pete Lien and Sons.
