MINE ID # OR
PROSPECTING ID #:
(Page 2)
M-2001-015 INSPECTION DATE: 7/25/2006 INSPECTOR'S CMR
INITIALS:
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring and enforcement inspection process that the
Division Reclamation Mining & Safety (Division) carries out on all permitted mines in Colorado at least once
every four years. Chris Rowe from the Division carried out the inspection; also present was Mr. Charles Mock
the Las Animas County (Operator) representative. The mine is located 10 miles east of Trinidad.
This is a 9.87 acre hilltop mine operation. There is an approximately a mile long access road. The road is fair
shape with some recent erosion channeling. Two adult black bears were encountered along the road.
According to the Operator this mine has been inactive since 2004. Topsoil has been scraped from most of the
flat hilltop work area. The topsoil has been stockpiled in several piles along the perimeter of the hilltop, and is
vegetated. A ten to twenty foot deep excavation was located along the southern third of the hilltop. The site
was sloped so stormwater drained toward the excavation area, and there was not any evidence of offsite
erosion. All the markers and signs were in place. There were no problems noted at this mine site.
Enforcement and Inspection Contact Address
NAME: Phil Dorenkamp
OPERATOR: Las Animas County
STREET: 2000 N.
