Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Jce Dudash ofthe Colorado DMG. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection. There was no actir7ty on site. There was rain the day before.
Roads
The paved haul road was in good condition. The cable was strung across the top of the road. The mine ID sign
was up at the entrance. The enhance gate on the other silo of the bridge was closed and latched, but not locked.
Hydrology
The sediment control system was in place. The collection ditch to the sediment pond was well vegetated and had
enough capacity. The sediment pond had a lirile standing water in it. Pond inslopes were stable as was the pond
embankment. Pond spillways were functional. The gated primary was dosed. The Edwazds Mine spring water
treatment pond was discharging at about 20 gpm. The discharge was dark orange in color but has been shown
previously to be in compliance. The culvert at the mine site entrance was clear. The berm along the mine site
perimeter, next to the river, was functional.
The east spring was flowing a dazk orange color water, which is being directed into the treatment pond. The
spring water measured 92 ° F in temperature at a point 15 feet below the point where the spring comes out of the
slope. The Division took water samples of this spring during last month's inspection, although not all of the
results have come back yet. There were no problems with the two alluvial wells, although the west welt had a
little ponded water next to it from the recent rain.
Facilities
No problems were observed with the mine office, except that the entrance doors were open. The bridge over the
North Fork of the Gunnison appeared to be stable.
Sighs and Markers
The mine ID sign was up at the entrance. Surface disturbance markers were up around the site.
Reclaimed S[oves
In the August 25, 2004 field inspection, mention was made that a hole in the backfilled west portal appeared to
have grown in size but that photographs would be reviewed to make sure. After review of photographs, it
appears that the hole has not grown bigger For this inspection, additional photographs were taken at the
back611ed west portal. These photographs will be compared with photographs taken in the past to see if there
have been any changes. While in the backfilled west portal azea, no smoke or vapor was seen, although an odor
of smoldering coal was apparent.
Rewrds
The records were in compliance.
