Mr. Gary Curtiss
Division of Minerals and Geology
July 1, 1994
Page 2

With respect to dewatering activities associated with the Bucklen Equipment Company Pit,
this pit has been continually dewatered since 1984. The pre-1981 lake immediately to the
west of the pit has not shown a water level drop during mining operations up until about one
year ago after which a gradual drop has been noticed. This has resulted in a water level drop
of four to five feet below previous elevations. Mr. Andrews, whose welt is approximately
900 feet from the pit boundary, reported an apparent eight foot drop in his well over the last
year. This information suggests that something has happened in the last year or so to cause a
significant drop in the water table. Since dewatering activities at the Bucklen Equipment
Company Pit have not chanl;ed over the last ten years, it appears unlikely that this is the
cause of the recent water level decline.
There seems to be some confusion as to Mc Andrews wells. The DMG report listed the two
wells as Andrews Well No. 1 (W-5122) and Wolf Well No. 2 (W-2710). According Yo the
court decrees, W-5122 is in reference to Wolf Well No. I (irrigation - 7 acres) and Wolf Well
No. 2 (domestic). Case W-2710 is in reference to Andrews Well No. 1 (irrigation - 2 acres).
An inspection of the court decrees and well files as well as a conversation with Mr. Andrews
have brought us to the following conclusions:
1) Wolf Well No. 1 (Decreed in W-5122) is currently 21 feet deep and an
application has been submitted fora 50 foot deep replacement well (Permit No.
43479FR) to be drilled by L.esh Drilling Company as soon as possible and a
submersible pump installed.
2) Andrews Well No. 1 (Decreed in W-2710) is currently being used by Mr.
Andrews for irrigation. This well is approximately 48 feet deep and the static
water level is at approximately 17.5 feet below ground level. According to
both Mr. Andrews and Lesh Drilling, this well was drilled to its current depth
in 1972.
As stated in the DMG inspection report, more information is needed to determine if the recent
drop in the water table is indeed responsible for the decreased production in Andrews Well
No. 1. According to the available information, it seems that the static water column in this
well (approximately 30 feet) is sufficient.

'~ L .3
