INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE: 2
FILE N0. 81-153
DATE: May 2, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
There was no activity at this site during the inspections.
2. Some topsoil and/or overburden fines were stockpiled. The volume of
material is estimated at. 400 cubic yards. This may not be enough material for
final reclamation. Topsoil in this area is thin and contains gravel and
cobble.
3. The pit highwall is a vertical cut approximately 25-30 feet in height. It
appears as though some topsoil was not salvaged on the north west end of the
pit. Topsoil should be salvaged prior to highwall excavation.
4. Asphalt rubble had been disposed of in the pit.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Estimate topsoil volumes to determine if there will be adequate topsoil
for final reclamation. Salvage topsoil prior to excavating the highwall.
This can be easily accomplished by stripping topsoil in a bench above the
proposed highwall cut. Once topsoil is salvaged and stockpiled it should be
graded and stabilized with a quick seed cover and marked with a sign. Topsoil
stockpiles should be located away from the operating area to avoid mishandling
or contamination.
2. Remove asphalt rubble or grade into final reclamation slopes and cover.
Mine sites are not landfills. Any further disposal of trash, waste, asphalt
or concrete rubble will Sneed to be adequately addressed as a technical
revision to your permit application.
3. Respond to the above items in writing to the Division prior to June 15,
1985.
/yt
Doc. No. 0342
