MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-407
INSPECTION DATE 11/05/97
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
The pit itself will generally expand in all directions, and mainly along t:he northwest-to-
southeast axis, following the ridge. The floor will drop from the present level
significantly. The highwalls on the NW and SE will be backeloped at 3:1, and receive contour
furrows to catch and hold moisture and sediment. The operator must, however, monitor and
maintain these furrows, for if a low spot develops, it will blow out and erode the slope
below it. The development of the pit will create a "saddle" which will generally open up
Coward the NE, The NE and SW sides of the pit, however, will be well bermed for visibility
reasons and to keep the pit a no-discharge operation. The woody vegetaticn to be stripped
from the slopes prior to mining will mostly be cut up and removed or burned. All processing
and stockpiling will occur within the pit.
The final item to be noted in this report is the fact that several U.S. Government haul
trucks were observed to enter the pit, load (by use of a U.S. Gov't wheele3 loader onsite)
then exit the pit. These vehicles made several trips each during the inspection. The
operator should be aware that it (Montrose County) is responsible for all di,aturbance within
its permit area, regardless of who causes it.
There were no other items observed or any problems noted during this inspection. Questions
related to the adequacy of the 112 conversion application were discussed, and those responses
from the operator are forthcoming. If there are questions or responses to this inspection
report or adequacy responses, please contact this inspector at the following address or
phone:
Division of Minerals and Geology
484 Turner Dr., Bldg.
