III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the DRMS.
Aerial photographs were taken on February 22, 2007 at approximately 10:28 a.m. Mike Boulay
of the DRMS reviewed the aerial photographs. Weather conditions were cleaz at the time of the
flight. Four photographs were taken during the flyover. The majority of the mine site was snow
covered.
Roads
Access roads to the office and shop/wazehouse azeas and the County Road up to the Wadge
Impoundment were plowed and cleaz of snow. All other mine site access roads appeaz to be
snow packed and inaccessible throughout the site. With the exception of the office and
shop/warehouse there was no activity noted at the time of the flight.
Hydrologic Balance
Sedimentation Ponds 002, 003, and 008 were visible in the photographs. These sedimentation
ponds were retaining water, but it was not evident in the photographs whether or not any of the
sedimentation ponds were discharging. They were all snow covered and appeaz frozen at the
surface. Pond inlets and embankments appeaz to be stable and no problems were noted at any of
the pond locations.
Support Facilities
The shop and warehouse azeas were viewed. From the photos, these facilities and perimeter
areas appeaz to be well maintained and no problems were noted with this aerial inspection.
