<br />(Page 2) <br />MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1987-171 <br />INSPECTION DATE: lone J1 2001 <br />OBSERVATIONS <br />r~ <br />INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW <br />This started out as a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG along with Mike MacDonald of <br />Kiewit Western Company. However, it ended up being apre-operational inspection for a pending 112 amendment <br />application that had been prepared and sent to our office. The site is located southwest of Colorado Springs, CO and west of <br />Fountain, CO. The site is basically bordered on the east by I-25, the north by Charter Oak Ranch Road, the west by an <br />adjacent gravel pit and the south by a fenced property boundary. <br />Mining has not yet commenced at this site, but the pit will be situated on a gravel terrace that generally runs north-south <br />through the property. Preliminary activities have begun with roads being laid out and sediment control structures being <br />installed along the southern end of the permit area in the main drainage of the site. The processing plant preparation was also <br />underway further back up this same drainage with general topsoil stripping and site leveling activities. <br />The amendment for this site addresses moving the main access road approximately 600 feet east of its present location and <br />adding approximately one acre to the permit area to accommodate this move. This will create a better traffic flow on Charter <br />Oak Ranch Road and avoid interference from trucks leaving the adjacent gravel pit. Unfortunately, the new entrance location <br />was not located within the existing permit boundary, thereby, causing the need for an amendment to add this area to the <br />permit area. There was a public notification sign posted where it could easily be viewed from Charter Oak Ranch Road which <br />contained all of the required notification information. The permit boundary was also clearly marked and the mine <br />identification sign was properly posted. No problems were observed either on the existing site or the area of the proposed <br />amendment.
