iII. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the
inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or
evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. No one represented the
operator during the field inspection.
East Mine
The gate to the site was open. There currently is some reclamation activity. The operator has begun
dismantling one of the water tanks on the fan bench. The paved haul road was in good condition, as
was the access road up to the portal bench and the light use road up to the fan bench. The light use
roads to the ponds were also in good condition. Road ditches and culverts were functional. The surface
disturbance markers were up around the site. The new mine ID sign was up on the entrance gate.
The cut and fill slopes and highwalls of the various mine facilities benches were stable. The ditches on
the benches were functional. The straw bales were in place around the drop inlet culvert on the
crusherlscreener bench. On the same bench, the straw bales in the back ditch need to be positioned
better.
There have not been any new additions to the West Ridge waste pile. The pile was well vegetated and
did not show any signs of erosional gullies or slope instability. The collection and diversion ditches
were in place and had sufficient capacity. There was a little water in the West Ridge waste pile pond.
The pond embankrrtent was stable and the discharge tubes were clear. The vegetative cover on the old
waste pile was very good. There were no signs of slope instability or erosional gullies on that waste
pile as well.
West Mine
The backfilled and graded West Mine facilities bench is holding up nicely. There were no signs of
slope instability, cracks or slumping. Erosionally, the site is stable. The straw bales and silt fence were
in position. There was a good cover of vegetation on this site. The two sediment ponds were dry.
There were no changes at the West Mine fan site since last month's inspection. The topsoil stockpile
was well vegetated, with the sign up. Surface disturbance markers were also up. The mine ID sign
needs to be replaced with the new one.
Well Field
The mine ID sign needs to be replaced at this site. The topsoil stockpile was well vegetated, although
thistle needs to be sprayed on the pile. The topsoil sign was up, as were the surface disturbance
markers.
c:/word bowie 1/insp0905
