Box 591 <br />Somerset, CO 81434 <br />M94105MT <br />Subject: Density Tests for the <br />Lower Refuse Pile <br />West Elk Mine <br />Mr. Barbe: <br />This letter is in response to your request for comment <br />concerning the 4th quarter, 1994 density tests for the lower refuse <br />pile, and is in response to the March 7, 1995 letter from the <br />Division of Minerals and Geology. <br />The Division of Minerals and Geology letter discusses the <br />density test results and the moisture content-dry density <br />relationship (Proctor) test results performed in December 1994. <br />The sample for the moisture content-dry density relationship test <br />was a representative sample obtained from the areas and materials <br />that were tested for in-place density. we recognize that the gob <br />material can vary widely depending on several factors. Therefore <br />the sample used for the laboratory moisture content-dry density <br />test was a composite sample obtained with a portion of the sample <br />retrieved from each in situ density test site.
