~LAFARG E
NORTH AMERICA
Construction Materials
May 8, 2002
Mr. Steve Shuey
Division of Minerals and Geology `
- 101 South Third Street, Room 301
Grand Junction, CO 81501
VIA FACSIMILE (970) 241-1516
Deaz Steve: _. ..
Based on our phone conversation of yesterday, I wish to thank you for granting us an
extension on the corrective action needed for the three sites you inspected. These three
sites are Powers Pit, Gypsum Ranch Pit, and Latham Pit. The extension you granted was
to June 28, 2002.
The financial warranty bonds for Powers and Latham have been ordered in the amount
recommended in your reports. I expect them to arrive early next week and I will forward
them to the Denver office.
Surveys have been ordered for the Powers and Gypsum Ranch sites to facilitate the map
revisions. Lack of a good map has been a problem since we have acquired the properties.
During this time until June 28, we will not take any action which will increase heights of
high walls or increase the area of disturbance without corresponding reclamation. Next
week we have surveyors scheduled to install more stakes on the boundazies of Powers
and Gypsum Ranch. Since a bond has not been recalculated for Gypsum Ranch, we will
focus on that site first in our work.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Cordially,
LAFARGE WEST, INC.
~~
Gary .Tuttle
Director.
