(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1978-007
INSPECTION DATE 07/13/2006
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS DEG
This routine monitoring inspection of Permit Number M-1978-007 (Big Burn Pit #17) was conducted by Deb E. Gbnima of the
DMG. Moffat County representative Marvin Moore was present during this inspection. The pit is located 85 miles northwest of
Craig, CO, and currently consists of approximately 20 acres where approximately 15 acres have been disturbed. The site is
approximately'/, mile west of County Road 10 near Irish Canyon.
Mine entrance signs and permit boundary markers are all in place, and topsoil stockpiles are all well-marked. All activities and
completed work at the time of inspection appeared to follow the guidelines and regulations set forth by the state and the mining
and reclamation plans for the pit, and no problems are noted for this site. The site is stable and no disturbance was observed
outside of the approved permit boundaries. For future reference, this site is correctly positioned in the DMG online GIS.
Two large material stockpiles are situated near the northwest portion of the site, and although the majority of the active mining
area is flat, the affected area is situated to facilitate drainage to the northeast (see photos 1 and 3). The topsoil stockpile has
been constructed near the western corner of the permit boundary (see photo 2). The storm water runoff control program that
was implemented a few years back seems to have been successful in its use of diversion structures, sediment traps, and small
ponding areas. There appears to be no offsite erosion, and no long-term (greater than 72 hours) water retention was observed.
There were several pieces of equipment present at the time of this inspection, including a fuel tanker (see photos i and 4).
Appropriate secondary containment measures were in place to mitigate potential damage from a fuel spill (see photo 4).
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Deb E. Gdnima at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Denver
Office, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-4179.
I & E Contact Address
cc:
^ CE
NAME Mr. Marvin Moore ^ BL
OPERATOR Moffat County ^ FS
STREET 1570 Rannev Street ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Craig, CO 81625 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH)
^ OTHER
cc: Bill Mack, Moffat County Road Department, P.O.
