(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1994-121
INSPECTION DATE 11/21/03 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection of the Vasquez Quarry No. 2 conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Division of Minerals and Geology. Phil Vasquez of Interstate Stone was present for the
inspection.
The Vasquez Quarry No. 2 is located 10 miles north of Lyons off Stone Canyon Road in Boulder
County, Colorado. A mining and reclamation permit was issued with conditions on April 13,
1995. The permit area is 7.4 acres in size, and the Division holds a financial warranty in
the amount of $1,491.00. The condition of permit approval is that the operator must contact
the Colorado Department of Health and the Environment and Boulder County before any landfill
is constructed.
The mine identification sign consist of a large sandstone rock painted with the name of the
operation and the permit number. Permit boundary markers were also identified. The quarry
was not being mined at the time of the inspection. According to Phil Vasquez, the mining
operation is closed for the season.
The site consists of 2 major benches along a cliff that runs from the northern portion of the
site towards the southeast and southwest. The exposed face of the cliff is roughly 30 feet
high and opens toward to the canyon to the north, The reclamation plan states that there
will be no backfilling into the excavation due to the exposure of the cliff. The reclamation
plan calls for a new cliff ledge when mining is complete. However, overburden piles and
topsoil is to be graded and placed on site. The Division did not depict any evidence of the
construction of a landfill on the lower regions of the site.
The Division currently holds $1,491.00 in the form of a Certificate Deposit. The Division
will reevaluate the reclamation cost estimate for the site to determine if this amount is
sufficient to reclaim the quarry in accordance with the approved reclamation plan. Notice of
any bond increase will be sent under separate cover.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Lucio Vas quez ^ BL
OPERATOR Lucio Vas quez ^ FS
STREET 2425 I-25 W.
