Revegetation
South Pit area reclamation is dominated by a sunflower-like plant, asters, and kochia. Cover is sparse,
but is coming along on this fairly recent reclamation although the area is extensively gullied (see
following).
Slides and Damaee
Much of the backfilled azea in South Pit is severely gullied (see photos in September 2004 inspection
report). Numerous gullies are 1 to 2 ft. deep, and are 10 to 100 ft. long. The gullies apparently
resulted from rainstorms in September 2004.
The Division is researching how gully repair in the South Pit azea should proceed as the approved post-
mining land use is industrial (gravel pit), and this area is in the process of being transferred to the
Ewing Mesa gravel pit permit. The operator has filed with the Division an application for Phase I, II,
and III release of the coal reclamation bond for the South Pit area.
