III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made during the <br />inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence <br />supporting the enforcement action. <br />This partial inspection of the Carbon Junction Coal Mine was conducted by DMG staff from the <br />DMG Durango Office, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango, CO 81301, phone (970) 247- <br />5469. <br />Mine identification sign was posted at the mine entrance. Permit boundary markers were <br />posted. Signs for topsoil stockpiles were posted. <br />Sediment Pond 1, located at the far south end of the permit area, was dry. No discharge noted. <br />Pond embankment, inslopes and bottom were well vegetated and stable. <br />Sediment Pond 2, located along the west side of the permit area, was dry. No discharge noted. <br />Pond embankment, inslopes and bottom were well vegetated and stable. Rock check damns, <br />construction within the sediment containment ditch which directs affected area drainage to Pond <br />2, were intact and functioning as designed. <br />Road side drainage ditches, culverts and sediment containment ditches were intact and clear. <br />Site appeared stable. <br />
