III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II mine site. Dennis Bugay accompanied me on the site
visit. Access was limited to the facilities area because of snow cover over the rest of the mine site.
With the recent warm weather the snow is melting quickly.
Seneca is proposing to retain all the buildings and structures at the facilities area. Anew landowner
has purchased this area and plans to take possession later this year. SCC is clearing out and selling,
demolishing or scrapping many of the tools and equipment stored in this area. This project is expected
to continue through the summer. The old boneyard was cleaned up last summer and the fence was
taken down. Thera are a couple culverts remaining that will be removed.
At the mine office Dan Mathews and I met with Roy Karo, Vem Pfannenstiel, Jay James and Dennis
Bugay to discuss upcoming bond release applications at the Seneca II Mine, the Yoast Mine and the
Seneca II-W Mine. SCC is evaluating in what sequence and what lands will be included for these
upcoming applications.
