III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology. This former underground mine is reclaimed. Remaining buildings and
structures are approved to remain as permanent structures. The landowner. A.J. luppa.
was present during the initial portion of the inspection. The weather was clear and hot and
ground conditions were dry.
Hvdroloaic Balance
The sediment pond held water in the southern end that was cleaned of sediment at the first
of this year. The pond was not discharging and no evidence of sedimentation was visible at
the pond inlet on the south side. The pond embankment and the emergency spillway
appeared normal and in good condition.
The contour ditches recently installed along the refuse slope have breached in numerous
locations. Erosion and sedimentation from the slope above each ditch has resulted in
sediment deposition on the ditches that has caused the ditches to breach on the downslope
side. This results in further problems as this process continues downslope in the nest
contour ditch. The operator should restore function in these internal ditches to minimize
slope erosion.
_.~"~ ~4. __V` .
