INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-80-143
DATE: October 16, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. There was no activity on site at the time of the inspection most likely
due to the time of day (5:OOp.m.),
2. The perimeter of the disturbed area was measured by pacing and the use
of a measuring tape and was within the approved permit boundary;
however, it is recommended that the operator clearly mark the permit
boundary. See Recommendation No. 1.
3. The rt~ining operations appear to be encroaching on material that may be
stockpiled topsoil. If this is topsoil, it is recommended that a buffer
zone be established between mining and the topsoil stockpiles. The
topsoil stockpiles should be clearly marked.
See Recortmendations Nos. 1 and 2.
4. The gravel stockpile is very close to County Road 502 and appears to
have spilled out onto the road in the past. Since this is a public
roadway it is recommended the operator maintain a safe working distance
from the road. See Recommendation No. 3.
5. As the inspectors were ]eaving the site they met Mr. Alan Parkerson, an
equipment operator on site. They expressed their concerns to Mr.
Parkerson who indicated he would pass them on to the operator.
RECOMMENUAIIONS:
1. Mark the permit boundary and topsoil stockpiles.
2. Maintain at least a 15-foot buffer zone between the active mine area and
the topsoil stockpiles.
3. Maintain at least a 15-foot buffer zone between the gravel stockpile and
County Road 502.
cc: Randy Neil
AB/mis
4631E
