(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: ~-te99-~'~
INSPECTION DATE: z-~~-n5 INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: inn
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection to field check the operation for compliance with the permit, regulations and
Act. Steve Heinz, an employee of Silver Mountain Preserve, accompanied the inspector.
The permit area was last inspected on April 3, 2000. At that time, the east and north pit margins had been
graded top-soiled and some re-vegetation had occurred. Huerfano County was the permit holder. The county
had requested release from reclamation responsibility, and the Division denied the request. Subsequently, Silver
Mountain Preserve succeeded the County as the permit holder and gravel pit operator.
The only noticeable difference since the last inspection is that a sawmill and wood products operation, of Silver
Mountain Preserve, has been established south of and in the southern portions of the gravel pit. Sawmill waste
actually covers the southeast permit corner marker. However, it appears that the mining disturbance area is
well within the permit boundary. The east permit boundary line is along a north/south ranch road and the
mining affected area does not reach the road. Silver Mountain Preserve must replace or uncover the southeast
boundary corner marker and any other marker/s that can't be located.
Mr. Heinz said that the ranch has discontinued the sawmill operation and indicated that the site will be
cleaned up of the mill and associated materials. The sawmill, mill products and waste must be removed from
the pit and other mining affected lands, prior to final reclamation to the present permit final land use.
The permit is for 8.6 acres. About 4 acres have been disturbed including the pit and other affected lands. The
financial warranty is $14,900.00 and is adequate. According to Mr. Heinz, the pit is presently only being used as
a source of gravel for ranch roads. He said that the landowner, Mr. Travis Crawford, may use the gravel in the
future on subdivision land he owns. He said that Mr. Crawford has been approached by other companies to
mine gravel in his permit area. But, because of the preserve nature of his ranch, he has refused such requests.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Travis R. Crawford
OPERATOR: Silver Mountain Preserve.
