Extensive backfilling and grading has occurred in the sand and gravel
operation recently. (This activity was observed on the ground during last month's coal inspection.) No recent
reclamation activity in the coal operation is evident in the aerial photos.
The timetable and schedule for completing reclamation is set forth on page 5-33 ofthe permit application,
as follows:
"Reclamation of the Carbon Junction Mine is stated to begin in the autumn of 2002 and continue through
completion. The completion of the tasks identified and described above [i. e. most reclamation tasks - TKJ
is anticipated to take three construction seasons (through summer of 2005). With completion of the
earthmoving and retopsoiling, seeding and planting is contemplated in the autumn of 2005. Should this
timetable need to be altered, OEI will apprise CDMG and revise the permit."
The last significant amount of reclamation activity in the permit area was in 2003 when the South pit azea was
reclaimed.
