(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1993-041
INSPECTION DATE 9/05/02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Dowe Flats Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of the Division of
Minerals and Geology. George Martin of CEMEX, Inc. was present during the inspection.
The Dowe Flats operation mines four horizons of calcium carbonate material to use at the
nearby cement plant also owned by CEMEX, Inc. Material is mined with large surface
machinery and hauled to a nearby conveyor system where it is conveyed to the cement plant.
The four seams are mined from the west. The Hi-Cal bed is mined over a length of almost
8,000 feet and the 2°d and 3~a seams will be extracted over a distance of 5,000 feet. The
4`h ridge outcrop is mined over a distance of 1,9000 feet.
As a pit progresses, the topsoil and overburden material are stripped and topsoiled for
future use. According to the 2000-2001 Annual Reclamation Report Map, approximately 46
acres have been reclaimed. In 2001, 10 acres were ready for seeding. A total .of 87 acres
are either active mining areas, or stockpile areas.
Portions of the reclaimed area were inspected. Considering the harsh drought conditions
this year, the vegetation appears to be established. Some annual weeds were noted, but
are expected for the first two growing seasons. The operator stated that noxious weeds
are sprayed once a year.
No problems were noted during the inspection.
I & E Contact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. John Lohr ^ BL
OPERATOR CEMEX, Inc. ^ FS
STREET P.O.
