III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a c+~lnspection of the Eastside Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of DMG. No
company representative was present during the inspection. The Eastside Mine is in reclamation only
status. Weather conditions on site were clear and warm.
Hydrologic Balance The sediment pond was dry and no recent mine discharge was noted. The
pond embankment was well vegetated and stable. The permanent diversion ditch was in good repair.
The clean water diversion ditch was in satisfactory condition. No signs of any significant erosion was
noted due to the excellent stand of vegetation that has been established. The mine water pipe was
not discharging, and no recent discharge was noted.
Reclamation Success: The vegetation planted at the site is doing exceptionally well. Two species
are predominant and these are yellow sweet clover and the wheat grass that was planted. The clover
will yield to other species as they develop. Other species noted include Indian rice grass,
penstemmon, fringed and silver sage, 4-wing saltbush, and big sage. Minor weed noted throughout
the site include cheat grass, (oxtail barley, kochia, Russian thistle, and clasping leaf pepperweed.
None of these weeds were considered to be an infestation at the site.
