Ranney, DMG
Jim Hendricks, Oakridge Energy
Mike Savage, Consultant
RECEIVED
APR 161891
~Ivleion of Mmaraio o ~owuy;
The permit was issued 7/31/93 and expires 7/31/98. There are 248 acres permitted, 156 acres
planned for life of mine disturbance, and 60.9 acres currently disturbed. The bond was originally
set for $802,262 but was updated in 1993 to $816,526. The bond instrument is a letter of credit
for this amount from the Bank of Texas. The required insurance was issued 12/5/97 by the
Federal Insurance Company and expires in 1998. The NPDES permit is COG-850027 which
expired 1/30/97. A renewal application was submitted 12/24/96 and is still under review.
The Annual Reclamation Report was submitted to DMG on 3/6/97. The last quarterly DMR's
were submitted on 1/4/97 for the fourth quarter of 1996. The pond inspection reports were last
done on 1/6/97 and are current through the fourth quarter of 1996. The haul road was certified
on 12/12/82 and the Carbon Junction road was certified 8/11/92. The underdrain in the excess
spoil pile was certified 12/4/84 and the certification includes pictures. Oakridge Energy conducts quarterly
inspections and certifications of the spoil pile during those quarters when the pile has been worked
for construction or maintenance.
Potential problems were observed in ditches leading to Pond 1. Erosion and side sloughing was
found in three locations, but it was not so extensive as to be a violation. Mr. Hendricks stated
that he would grade and riprap the locations.
This inspection was also used to conduct a bond release evaluation for a thirteen acre section of
the permit that is to be used for a golf course. Grade work has started both on and off the permit
area for the fairways. The disturbed area subject to the phase III release consists of an explosive
storage pad and access road.
Due to market and transportation considerations, this mine has not been active for many years.
Mining initially started in two locations; an area just north and east of the gravel operations, and
the area called the north pit.
