MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING iD #: M-ivR~_m9
INSPECTION DATE: 04/~y/n7 INSPECTOR' S INITIALS: KAP
OBSERVATIONS
1. This inspection was performed as part of the Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety's four-year
monitoring program. Present at the inspection were Kate Pickford, DRMS, and Patrick Sullivan, Rio
Grande County. Weather at the time of the inspection was clear, calm, and approximately 70 degrees.
2. A sign is posted at the entrance to the site and the boundaries are easily identifiable in the field. The
disturbance at this site consists of a pit covering much of the permitted site, approximately 10 feet
deep; and a stockpile area that sits higher than the pit, which has not yet been mined. The highwalls of
the pit are graded to 3:1 slopes.
3. The County plans to move the stockpiled material onto the pit floor to continue mining in the area that
currently contains the stockpiles. The County plans to submit an application for a conversion to add
acreage to the permit.
4. Topsoil at the site is stockpiled but contains weeds rather than seeded vegetation. Mr. Sullivan
expressed concern over seeding the stockpile due to the winds that the area experiences. His concern
is that the wind would result in the seed being blown off and out of the stockpile. In that the piles are
currently stabilized with weedy vegetation, the Division will consider the current vegetation on the piles
adequate.
5. Current activity at the site appears to be within the parameters of the approved permit.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Patrick Sullivan
OPERATOR: Rio Grande County
STREET: P.n Bax 46
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Monte Vitta, C'O R1144
Cc: ^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW.
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ Other:
